At one point or the other, we compare ourselves to others – maybe a friend, family member, colleague or neighbor – especially when we have friends or family members who are more successful or more intelligent than we are. We then start torturing ourselves secretly by wishing that we are like them. We forget that when we were growing up, we all made different choices, some of which are not perfect but this doesn’t mean that we should live a miserable life for the rest of our lives.

When we make it a habit to compare ourselves to others, it prevents us from moving forward in life and at the end of the day leads to frustration. You don’t know what the people that you are comparing yourself to are passing through or what they have gone through. For all you know, your life may be a lot better and easier than theirs. They may appear to be happy on the outside but are painfully going through a lot on the inside.

Do you know that we are all capable of creating our own reality? If you are not happy with the way your life has turned out, you have the power inside you to change your life for the better. Stop throwing a pity party by thinking that it is too late or impossible to change your life because of your age. There are people who have been in worse situations and have managed to be successful and happy with themselves.

Take the time to prayerfully look inwards and discover your unique talent. As the saying goes, “When there is life there is hope.”
