Now that I am retired and have so much time to relax and enjoy life I’m worried that as I get older, lack of vigorous mental activities will affect my brain.

With this in my mind, I started exploring different activities to keep mentally fit. Some of these activities are:

1. Trying out new things

I have found significant benefits in trying out new things such as learning to use the Zoom app in establishing and maintaining new social networks that keep me connected with my family and friends all over the world.

I have taken this a step further by also completing some free courses online, which is another simple and practical way to try out new things.

I avoid doing anything that causes me undue stress. This helps me remain focused and be present in the moment.

One of the many benefits of growing old is the wisdom acquired over the years; however, to make an impact with the acquired wisdom, we must NOT allow our brains to die a natural death. Click To Tweet

Living in a big city like Lagos creates many opportunities for exploration. There are so many art galleries, different resorts, and beaches to visit with friends and family. This helps your mind and could provide clarity. Even if you don’t live in a big city, you can take advantage of opportunities to explore places around you. Traveling is also a good idea.

2. Learning a new skill

We can also protect our brains from natural deterioration by learning new skills such as a new language, learning to play an instrument, playing a word game, and putting together some puzzles.

One of the many benefits of growing old is the wisdom that we have acquired over the years, which makes us have a better understanding of what is happening and helps us easily connect to it.

However, to make an impact with the acquired wisdom we must NOT allow our brains to die a natural death.
