One of the advantages of getting older is the benefit of insight that comes from reflecting on the wide range of experiences we’ve had along the way.

As I go on my aging journey, I’ve learned many valuable life lessons that have made me wiser and stronger. I am still learning because I learn every day.

Here are some of the lessons which I believe you will also find helpful.

1. There is no such thing as perfection, therefore, no one is perfect. I am not perfect.

2. We should always be grateful for what we have and not dwell on things we do not have.

3. Always forgive because unforgiveness is like hurting yourself by drinking poison. There is no way we can go through life without experiencing hurt, so to experience peace and joy we must learn to forgive.

4. As we go on our aging journey unconditional love is one of the most important things in life. So, we must learn to have an open heart to embrace unconditional love, and we should never take it for granted. [Click to tweet]

5. I have come to discover that true happiness comes from within and not from external motivators such as a high-flying job or accumulation of material things. Internal happiness makes you experience peace and joy that cannot be explained.

6. You will make mistakes because they are part of life. Learn from them and move on.

7. I have also learnt not to judge people because I didn’t take the time to really know them. I now understand that we are all unique individuals.

8. Having patience is a skill that is very important. We must learn it and practice it every day.

9. It is never too late to try something different and new. To do this, you have to leave your comfort zone, and this is what I have been working on.

10. I must love myself and practice self-care before I can take care of others.

These are just a few of the life lessons that I have learnt; and since I am learning every day, I will keep updating this list.
